I was good at studies and I had scored well throughout my academic journey. But I was very much hesitant to interact with friends and faculty, as I couldn’t speak fluent English. Hence, I always went unnoticed, irrespective of having brilliant ideas and relevant opinions,” said Rakshita, a former student of Engineering from Pune.

Today, Rakshita works with a very renowned Multi National Company. As she spoke to us regarding her struggle, efforts and achievements, she constantly focused on the importance of having good communication skills. Rakshita confessed how she faced several rejections in interviews, as she could not convey her vision and came across as a very incapable or unconfident candidate.

She stated, “Your mark sheets are just a gateway that will lead you to an interview. The command on language and the communication skills that you hold are the key factors for surviving, growing and sustaining in the industry.”

Rakshita learnt from her circumstances and failures that she had to improvise and groom herself according to the industry’s demands. But, you have an opportunity to learn from her experience and avoid any kind of rejections or downfalls.

India is developing rapidly and globalisation is one of the most important factors responsible. Hence, recruiters today are looking not only for skilled employees but all rounders. A candidate who can perform his job professionally and also communicate efficiently is highly in demand.

“The art of communication is the language of leadership”, quoted Author James .C. Humes.

It is undeniable that the educational qualification and the skill set that you hold is your strength and will not go unnoticed. But the ladder to success is supported by good communication. The art and talent to convince and persuade people to believe in your capabilities and to support your vision is required to succeed. This is possible if and only if you have a strong command on English as it is universally accepted as an official language.

Indian Institute of Hardware Technology (IIHT) has served the vision of promoting employability for past twenty three years. We as an IT training institute believe in empowering our students with the skills that are job oriented. Our placement portal expresses how placing candidates who lack basic communication skills is a tedious task and how along with their guidance personal efforts are required for speedy improvement.

“Every time a candidate is rejected we receive a feedback from the recruiter to understand the problem involved. Recruiters or HR’s often say that they are okay recruiting a candidate with average technical skills, as he or she can be trained for the same; but stress upon the fact that candidates should have at least average communication skills for client management,” says our placement team.
